RHS-TechAhoy Build Night

TechAhoy has registered for the fifth annual Red Hook Regatta! We will be competing aboard the mighty RHS-TechAhoy in the 3D-Printed Boat Race. We are excited to throw our hat, err we mean “cover”, in the ring!

The competition is on August 24th which is barely a month away, so we will be working hard to create a vessel sturdy enough to survive the choppy harbor waves off Valentino Pier.

3D-Printed Boat Race Rules

The main event features 3D-printed, radio-controlled boats. Teams will compete to transport “cargo” (foam containers with metal plates) from “Stevedores” on the beach to designated “crane operators”, who will be receiving the cargo on the pier using fishing rods equipped with red magnetic hooks. Each cargo container picked up by a crane constitutes one point for that boat’s team, and the boat with the most points is the winner.

This is our first community build, meaning we are all in it together. Every Tuesday and Thursday, from 6:30PM - 8PM, we will spend time researching boat hull designs, discussing how to effectively balance the boat considering the heavy battery and competition “cargo”, printing test designs, and putting each design through rigorous yet fun tests.

Feel free to swing by the space at any time to contribute, check on our progress, or just to say hello. Everyone is invited to participate and lend a hand.

Just enthusiasm and curiosity - although prior boating, nautical, or r/c experience will be immensely helpful!
