Makerspace Instructor
(Part-Time)
$25 - $30 an hr.

Description

We are seeking a creative, self-driven team member who will lend their expertise, develop hands-on lesson plans, and guide students in grades 3rd - 8th during after-school programs, clubs, day camps, and special event workshops. The Makerspace Instructor will help develop curriculum for the 2019-2020 school year focusing on coding, robotics, game design, and 3D printing.

Responsibilities

  • Generate new program ideas and develop lesson plans for after-school programs and clubs

  • Provides hands-on support while educating, empowering, and encouraging students in all activities

  • Produce internal content to demonstrate makerspace potential and foster an environment of possibilities

  • Maintain a clean and safe learning environment

Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to assist students and adults

  • Experience in classroom management (Regularly licensed DOE teacher preferred)

  • Familiarity with any of the following:

    • Minecraft Java/Bedrock, Scratch, MakeCode

    • LEGO Mindstorms EV3, WeDo and Spike prime robotics systems

    • Autodesk Fusion 360 (or other CAD software such as SketchUp, TinkerCAD, etc.)

    • MaKey MaKey, littleBits, Snap Circuits

    • Prusa i3 MK3/S (or other 3D printers such as MakerBot, LulzBot, Creality3D, etc.)

    • Game design: analog & video games

    • Arduino, Feather, Flora, CircuitPlaygroundExpress, and Raspberry Pi

  • Building, crafting, hacking, and a strong curiosity and desire to create

  • Experience in macOS, iOS, Windows, Linux-like OS

  • Undergo a background check, in accordance with local law/regulations

  • A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience) in a science, technology, engineering, arts, or math field and classroom experience is preferred

  • English language proficiency required (bilingual preferred)


GWC101 Facilitator
(Volunteer)

The role of a Club Facilitator is to:

  • Guide Club members through the curriculum (provided by Girls Who Code)

  • Help build sisterhood within the Club.

  • Help the girls explore how computer science can be used to impact their community.

Facilitators are not required to have any technical experience, as long as they are willing to learn alongside their Club members. Facilitators can be teachers, computer scientists, librarians, parents, college students, or volunteers from any background or field. That’s why we use the term “Facilitator” instead of “teacher”. 

Girls Who Code Facilitators are required to care about introducing girls to Computer Science! Facilitators must also:

  • Be at least 18 years old.

  • Pass a background check (or submit proof of having recently passed a background check).

  • Complete a brief training.

  • Be available 2-4 hours per week (including travel and prep time) for the duration of the Club.

GWC201 Facilitator
